County PHO on COVID Treatments, Vaccine
Johnson County Public Health Officer Dr. Mark Schueler talked about COVID-19 treatments and vaccine priorities during the weekly Emergency Operations Center briefing with the media Tuesday.
Schueler said so far there are no breakthroughs in COVID treatment, that its largely supportive care.
That being said there is a new treatment that appears to be promising.
Schueler also said they will be distributing very specific “risk profiles” to determine those that may need the vaccine first, when it becomes available to the general public.
The vaccine is very effective, higher than anticipated, according to Schueler, and although there isn’t enough data to know all the rare, long-term complications from the vaccine, they’re not hearing about any problems associated with the vaccine, which he said is encouraging.
