Johnson County Public Health Officer Dr. Mark Schueler discussed the increase in COVID-19 cases in and around Johnson County in recent weeks during the press briefing at the Johnson County Healthcare Center Tuesday.

He said its been an interesting couple of weeks with much more COVID activity than has been seen since the beginning of the year, which he isn’t happy about, but not surprised by.

Schueler said he thinks it may be helpful to test students and teachers to find if there might be some infected students or staff who are transmitting illness and not sick and unaware they have the illness.

Dr. Schueler sai winter sports may be an issue in the near future, and explains why.

Dr. Schueler commented that the county clearly has more COVID activity and more hospital activity and said, “we need to do a better job in limiting the spread of infection but how we execute that going forward is a big challenge.”
