Buffalo celebrated Oktoberfest this past Saturday, and organizers and the mayor said it was a good time, enjoyed by many, and that it was a success.

Claudia Todd, who is a co-organizer along with Anke Kottmann and Janny Breton, said she was happily surprised at the turnout for the event.

Oktoberfest featured German food, local beers and German wine; a petting zoo and activities for the kids; and German Polka music.

Buffalo Mayor Shane Schrader, who tapped the first keg to open the celebration, as is done in Germany, said the event drew people from all over the region.

Mayor Schrader praised the job of the organizers and said with the turnout at this year’s Oktoberfest, he believes this will could very well be an annual event.
