County Approves Ballot Initiatives for Solid Waste, Lodging Tax

The Johnson County Commissioners have approved resolutions allowing ballot measures for continuing the Solid Waste District and the Lodging Tax.

As explained during their recent meeting, both entities had approached the county, wanting them to approve the initiatives, but had not followed up since then, although it was understood by County Attorney Barry Crago and the commissioners that each entity was still interested in placing them on the ballot.

Commission Chair Bill Novotny explained the issue further.

With the deadline to allow advertising and to get the initiatives on the ballot looming, the commission decided to approve them contingent upon review with the Solid Waste District and Lodging Tax Board.

If they choose not to have them placed on the ballot, the commission will rescind the resolutions at their August 4th meeting.
