SPD: Click it or Ticket
The Sheridan Police Department is participating in the national “Click it or Ticket” high visibility enforcement campaign through May 31, increasing patrols and seat belt enforcement during the Memorial Day travel period.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Captain Tom Ringley said the campaign is funded through overtime grants from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and is intended to encourage safer driving habits and increase seat belt use.

Seat belts reduce fatal injury risk by 45% in passenger cars and 60% in light trucks. According to national statistics, nearly half of people killed in vehicle crashes were not wearing seat belts. Ringley said the NHTSA chose this time of year due to the increase in travel during Memorial Day weekend.

According to Ringley, national statistics show that unrestrained fatalities are especially high among pickup truck occupants, nighttime drivers and adults ages 18 to 34.
Ringley recommended parents and guardians have conversations with young children on the importance of wearing a seat belt to develop safe driving habits early.
