Sheridan Man Sentenced to Prison for Distributing Child Porn
A Sheridan man will spend a significant amount of time in prison for distributing child pornography. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
In July of 2025, 28-year-old Cody Adsit was arrested and charged with eight counts of sexual exploitation of a child – distribution of child pornography. According to court documents, on June 18, 2025, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that videos of child pornography were being uploaded from a Kik account in Sheridan. A subsequent investigation led to Adsit’s arrest for distributing child pornography videos using two different Kik accounts.
Adsit, at a change of plea hearing February 5, pleaded guilty to two counts distribution of child pornography. The guilty pleas were part of a plea agreement with the State that recommended 5 to 8 years in prison for each count, and to run the sentences consecutive to one another, for a total of 10-16 years in prison. In exchange for the guilty pleas, the State agreed to dismiss six counts of distribution of child pornography.
At sentencing Tuesday, District Court Judge Darci Phillips, citing the horrific crimes against children in the videos that Adsit was receiving and sharing on the Kik messaging app, rejected the plea agreement and sentenced Adsit to a total of 10 to 24 years in prison for the two counts of distribution. Adsit was ordered to pay $525 in court costs and assessments and was given 292 days of credit for time served of presentence confinement. Adsit will continue to be held at the Sheridan County Detention Center pending transfer to a facility to be determined by the Wyoming Department of Corrections.
