Johnson County’s Commissioners will adopt their final budget in July, and are currently working on budget hearings with departments, special districts, and other entities.
The county’s Preliminary Operating Budget was $11.75 million in requests from county departments and about $164,000 is for Capital Improvements.
The preliminary budget is about $50,000 less than last year’s finalized operating budget of just under $12 million.
The Fiscal Year 2020-2021 budget is expected to be significantly less than last year’s $48.6 million budget.
County Assessor Deb Robinson earlier this spring said would meet with the State Board of Equalization in mid-June and will then certify the county’s valuation in early July, for the county commission to use to help set the budget for the coming year.
Robinson said she does not expect big changes in valuation this year.
Hearings for overall county budgets shall be held no later than the third Monday in July, and Johnson County has scheduled their hearing for Monday, July 20th.
