Northern Wyoming Community College District has created a new program designed for teachers seeking endorsement to teach computer science.

E. Anne Gunn, computer science instructor at Sheridan College, said the endorsement was recently created by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board.

The new computer science certificate course is completely online, and most courses are offered in both fall and spring semesters. The 16-hour Computer Science Pathway Certificate focuses on the topics, tools and best practices teachers need to teach computer science in grades 6 through 12.

Gunn said what makes the Northern Wyoming Community College District certificate program different from some others in the state is that the college district works with local school districts.

Dr. Walt Tribley, who’s president of the college district, said because the certificate is offered completely online, all Wyoming teachers, not just those in Sheridan, Johnson and Campbell counties, have access to the program.

Teachers interested in enrolling in the program can apply online at www.sheridan.edu or email Gunn at egunn@sheridan.edu for more information.
