The Sheridan College Board of Trustees have approved the purchase of land in Buffalo for the future campus of Sheridan College in Johnson County.

In a special meeting Thursday in Buffalo, the board went into an executive session and then returned to approve the purchase of roughly 11 acres of property located across from Buffalo High School at the intersection of South Main Street and Bypass Road for about $399,900.

College President Dr. Walter Tribley explains what the purchase of land means to the college and for the Buffalo community.

According to a release from the college, Dr. Tribley said, “We are excited about what this investment represents. It reflects our commitment to serve the region by delivering accessible, relevant, and hands-on education that adapts to local needs. It also strengthens our key partnership with Johnson County School District. We want to expand access to meaningful credentials that will include career and technical skills for students while they are in high school.”

The college has a “long-term vision of creating a multi-use educational space,” to “enhance access to a wide range of learning opportunities, both academic and workforce-oriented.”

Planning for the site’s design will continue over the coming months, according to the release.

No construction or opening date for the facility was announced.

Falling in line with the University system in the US in general. Spend, spend, spend. Then raise tuition and fees. No problem. Students can get unlimited loans and pay the School. But… the student is now in debt, the taxpayer looks to be on the hook as government bails people out. The School? They already have their money. They got paid up-front. They just build fancier buildings, overbuild classroom space, buy land without first having a plan for how much land they need, what will be put on it and when. Unbelievable.
