Johnson County’s Commissioners voted to stand behind the Trump Administration in the effort to rescind the long-standing roadless rules in place on Federal lands.

Commission Chairman Bill Novotny made the request of the commission to show their support of the effort.

According to the Associated Press, the Trump administration plans to rescind the roadless rule adopted during Bill Clinton’s presidency in 2001.

The rule impeded road construction and timber production that would have helped reduce the risk of major wildfires, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins  said earlier this summer.

The roadless rule has affected about 59 million acres of forest lands, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
