Prevention Specialist Explains Need to Continue COVID-19 Restrictions

During this week’s Johnson County COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center briefing, Prevention Specialist Kristina Duarte, with the Johnson County Healthcare Center, said questions had been asked by some in the community about why, if the number of positive COVID-19 cases are going down, there is a need to continue restrictions in the county.
Duarte said masks do help fight the spread of the virus.
She said countries that have adopted universal masking policies have shown profoundly less illness than those that have not.
Wearing a mask is not designed to protect the person wearing them, but to protect those around them, especially in instances where social distancing may be harder to do, according to Duarte.
Although the virus can survive for a time on surfaces, Duarte said hand washing is still one of the best ways to prevent not only COVID-19 but other illnesses as well.

I believe if Festus T. Haggen (former Matt Dillon sidekick/actor on Gunsmoke TV Series) were still alive today…With a twinkle in his eye, old Festus would say…” better to stop a little spittle…’ taint no big task to wear them face masks”
