GPET Applicants

Funding requests from local agencies for General Purpose Excise Tax funds from the City of Sheridan will soon be considered by the City Council. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
City Administrator Stu McRae presented details of the GPET applicants at this week’s Sheridan City Council study session. He talked about the number of applicants and the criteria to apply and receive funding.
McRae said that the City is projecting the revenue from the GPET to be approximately $4.9 million, which was what was projected last year.
The City Council will be considering the GPET applications at their next regular business meeting, Monday, April 21.

Why don’t you take the 4.9 Million and divide it between property OWNERS. You know, the ones paying taxes?

What would have been the point of the tax if you just turn around and give it right back? The people voted for this SALES tax, it has nothing to do with property OWNERS. It was on a ballot measure.

A record-high 42% of voters rejected the tax because they know the Truth: Lower Taxes Are Better.
Let’s stop the cruelty of having some folks impose their will on their neighbors.
If you like high taxes or want to donate, then by all means, do so. But plz stop imposing your will on others.
A lower more affordable 5 cent sales tax will provide much needed tax relief and spur increased local shopping.
I understand the frustration of property owners and remind everyone that we don’t control the property tax rate.
But we do control the sales tax rate with our vote.
Frustrated with high taxes? Then vote “Against” the one-percent Excess tax and all high taxes every year!

Good question. What is the point of this Excess Tax?
To feed stray cats and buy $36,000 rabbit statues?

Better yet. Don’t hit ourselves with this EXCESS Tax in the first place. Sheridan County has WAY more money than it needs.
Just see the Brooks St. Boondoggle and Flowerpot Extravaganza.
The only way to limit gov’t waste, is to limit the amount of our money they get their hands on.
Always vote Against higher taxes.
Always.
Lower Taxes Are Better.

When you divide the one-percent loot between every household, you get about $250 that is extracted from each of us annually.
Instead of collecting, then re-distributing to each household or what politicians deem as “worthy causes” why not just STOP taxing ourselves in the first place?

The only legitimate use of forced-taxation is for police, courts and basic infrastructure. Any group that accepts voluntary donations should be prohibited from ALSO taking taxpayer money.
Double-dipping is immoral and un-constitutional.
The only way to limit gov’t mis-use and waste of our tax dollars is to limit the amount of our money they get their hands on.
Vote against all tax increases.
Lower Taxes Are Better.

Nice subliminal with the picture of the penny, but the truth is the Generally Mis-Purposed Excess Tax (GPET) is an additional 1% on top of the 5% Sales Tax.
Buy a $50,000 truck and you pay an additional $500 just in the one percent Excess tax.
The average household will save $10,000 over a working lifetime by voting “Against” the one-percent excess tax!
($250 a yr for 40 yrs.)
Invested in growth stock muni’s that’s well over %100,000 savings in a lifetime. That’s a lot of your money to pocket just by voting NO.
