Gillette to Host Special Olympics Summer Games

Special Olympics Wyoming announced Monday that Gillette will host the 2025 State Summer Games May 1 through the 3. The Special Olympics Wyoming State Summer Games will feature competitions in athletics (track and field), basketball, powerlifting, and swimming across the three-day event. Venues for the competition include the Cam-Plex Wyoming Center, Thunder Basin High School Track, Thunder Basin High School Gymnasium, Campbell County Aquatic Center, and the Campbell County Recreation Center. Additional features of the event are a youth summit event based around inclusion, health screenings for attending athletes, and a special opening ceremony address by Denver Bronco Linebacker Alex Singleton.
Events will kick off on Thursday, May 1 with a Law Enforcement Torch Run. Athletes and members of law enforcement will complete their run at the Campbell County Recreation Center where there will be music, food trucks and celebration. Opening ceremonies will begin later that evening at the CAM-PLEX Wyoming Center, with the parade of athletes and the lighting of the Flame of Hope, signaling the start of competition.
