Sheridan Commission Creates Semiquincentennial Committee
Sheridan County’s Commissioners approved, on a split vote, the creation of a Semiquincentennial Committee that will help in the celebration of the country’s 250th birthday celebration this year.
The commission had failed to pass the proposal at an earlier meeting on a tie vote because of an absence on the commission, and Commissioner Christi Haswell asked for the proposal to be placed on Tuesday’s agenda because all commissioners were present.
Commissioners Mike Arzy and Holly Jennings said they were opposed to spending the public’s tax dollars for the celebration and would be voting against the resolution.
Commissioner Nick Siddle explained that the funds have already been allocated for each county by the state for the celebration.
Jennings reminded the commission that the money, regardless of where it is coming from, is still public tax dollars being spent.
The commission then voted to approve creating the committee on a split vote with commissioners Arzy and Jennings voting against.

SO the freedom caucus commissioners don’t want to celebrate this our great country. Sounds like they should head over to their russian allies.

Wrong. Our smart and frugal commissioners don’t want to waste any of our tax dollars on a party.
America is Broke!
In fact, we have to payback $36 Trillion in debt, just to get back to Broke!
Every American should applaud every effort, at any level, to reduce spending that any elected official puts forward.
Fiscal responsibility is a must, if we are to avoid bankruptcy.
We either choose to be responsible or we will be Forced to by a national depression, then potential bankruptcy.
We need to get our financial house in order, locally and state-wide….while we still can.

Mr. Fox, lift up on those reins and slow that horse down. I never said your comissioners were not smart. In looking at the article and seeing the money was marked specifiacally for a 250 year celebration( that leans it can’t be spent on anything else) it should just sit somewhere and become forgotten about?
However with the way things are going with this new tariff/trade war our country is determined to embark on you’re right, our country should not be celebrating ourselves.

We should always celebrate the greatest country on earth. We just have to quit wasting so much taxpayer money and be wise stewards of the money that’s already been extracted from us.
I will always support good financial management and smart, frugal commissioners.

Hats off to all those who are smart enough to know the “gravy-train” is over. Thanks to the two fiscally wise and responsible commissioners for NOT wasting our tax money on a party.
If we keep spending like there’s no tomorrow, there may be no party at all. We could go bankrupt before we even get to 250 yrs, if we don’t stop wasteful spending.
Have you heard of the fraud waste and abuse being uncovered by DOGE? And the waste happens everywhere.

A group of un-paid volunteers, forming a B-Day committee that only takes voluntary donations, is perfect.
Let’s reserve tax dollars for things that only gov’t can and should do: Police, Courts and basic infrastructure.
The Brooks St. Boondoggle is the perfect example of gov’t excess and wasteful mis-spending of tax dollars.
