Sheridan County Engineer Ken Muller made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse and said the Ranchester Bridge replacement was a major project for the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

Costing approximately $12.5 million, Muller said the project was not only needed but one he enjoyed being a part of as the bridge being replaced holds historical significance.

During the replacement project, crews discovered old coal cars that were once used to transport coal across the bridge. Although Muller said the cars are in “pretty tough shape” they are on display along with the old bridge for posterity. Muller said the Sheridan Community Land Trust and other historical preservation organizations will be creating interpretive signs which will be placed next to the bridge in the near future.

As for the spring, Muller said the main focus will be on the graveling of county roads and replacing culverts that have exceeded their life span.
