Sheridan College has announced they will host the Professional Agricultural Student (PAS) 2025 National Competition and are currently seeking judges.
According to the college, over 500 college students from across the country will travel to Sheridan College to showcase their skills in a diverse array of subjects related to agriculture. The competition will be March 18-19. Participating students are all members of the PAS organization, a student-led organization that helps students build and sharpen skills to further prepare for the workplace.
According to animal science instructor Dr. Rebecca Atkinson, the students have competed at local and state levels to earn their spot at this event with the guidance of faculty advisors to “develop the technical, professional, and soft skills required for career success within the agriculture industry.”
Various competitions involve “competition-style learning models that give students the practical and hands-on development opportunities essential for career success,” according to Atkinson.
Sheridan College is seeking judges for both days of competition to ensure the event’s success; with 24 different areas of competition (ranging from livestock to agronomy, and marketing to agriculture machinery). Lunch will be provided, and judges can decide if they would like to help on either or both days.
According to Sheridan College, those interested in judging do not need to be content experts, as the competition focuses on assessing critical thinking skills. However, applicants are asked to provide some background information on the form so organizers can match them to an appropriate area, if possible.
