Captain of the Sheridan Police Department, Tom Ringley, made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss new additions to the SPD team.

Ringley said two new telecommunications technicians have joined the team. In August Lori Willey and Alison Shafer were hired as dispatchers and are currently undergoing training in the 14 week Field Training Officer Program. Officer Stephen Piker is also currently attending the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy (WLEA) in Douglas and will graduate on Nov. 21.

During the 14 week course, students are taught and evaluated on curriculum established and certified by WLEA and the Wyoming Peace Officer Standards and Training. Subjects include Constitutional Law, search and seizure, laws of arrest, firearms, custody and control, emergency vehicle operations, building searches, traffic stops, and investigations.

The job of communications technician involves a mountain of multitasking, crisis intervention, crisis management, and the ability to listen to detail under stress. Because of this, communications technicians attend the WLEA, just as their patrol officer peers. They must receive certifications and hours upon hours of in-house training at the SPD.

The SPD is currently searching for potential officers and telecommunications technicians, find more on this by clicking here.
