Auditions for “A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play”

Sheridan’s Civic Theater Guild has announced the guild will continue its 2024-2025 season with “A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play.” The auditions will be held at the Carriage House Theatre at 419 Delphi Ave. on Oct. 21, 2024 beginning at 6 p.m.
Playwright Joe Landry has found great success in adapting classic stories to the radio play format. During the 2020 holiday season, CTG offered Landry’s “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” as a production that could be streamed right into audience’s homes, as the COVID-19 lockdown prevented many gatherings in person.
The production was so popular that CTG produced another of Landry’s holiday classics, “A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play” during the 2021 season when more audiences could gather. This year, CTG is following up on that tradition that started four years ago.
Last year, CTG produced “It’s a Wonderful Life” again, but in front of a live audience. “A Christmas Carol” will be offered this year, to follow up with the tradition, by presenting an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic holiday story about the journey of Ebenezer Scrooge and his ghostly Christmas Eve visits.
Director Ian Cannon-Wallace is searching for 7-10 actors of all ages for the many parts of the play. Auditioners will be asked to do cold readings from the script, based on the character descriptions that will be provided.
Cannon-Wallace wants to reassure potential auditioners that the scripts will be read onstage, as it is a convention of the genre. Therefore, the memorization process won’t be as important to this production. Rather, Cannon-Wallace would like the actors to focus more on the interpretation of the many characters in the story. Cannon-Wallace has said that he’s looking for actors who can do multiple voices, as each actor could be expected to play many parts within the play. Performances will run Dec. 6-8, and 13-15.
