A change of plea hearing was held Thursday via video conference in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for 27-year-old Breanna Fortman, who is charged with Aggravated Assault and Battery. Fortman was arrested and charged with the crime on January 26 for allegedly stabbing an individual with a large kitchen knife at a residence in Sheridan County.

Fortman, pursuant to a plea agreement reached with the State, pleaded guilty to the felony charge at Thursday’s hearing. The plea deal recommends a sentence of 3 to 6 years in prison and that Fortman pay any and all restitution. The restitution amount will most likely be determined during the presentence investigation process.

District Court Judge John Fenn ordered that a presentence investigation be completed and set the date for sentencing for June 30 at 9 am. Bond was revoked, and Fortman was remanded to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center to await sentencing.
