Aaron PalmerJohnson County’s Commissioners discussed sending a letter to the US Forest Service to urge them to keep a district ranger in the Powder River District of the Bighorn National Forest.
At the commission’s meeting Tuesday, Chairman Bill Novotny asked the commission to approve him sending the letter, prompted by current District Ranger Thad Berrett’s recent announcement that he was transferring to the Bureau of Land Management.
Novotny said that in the past, the US Forest Service had considered the idea of having the District Ranger for the Tongue River District in Sheridan to oversee both that office and the office in Buffalo.
Novotny said his letter asks for the Forest Service to place another district ranger in the Buffalo office and not have it administered by the Sheridan office.
The commission voted to approve Novotny sending the letter.
