The Sheridan County Conservation District is continuing to work on a new set of goals and accomplishments.

The District is putting together a new 5-year long range plan as it identifies priorities and needs, figures out what issues need to be addressed, regardless if it’s new or old and see what others have run their course.

The plan, which will start in 2025, is required by the US Department of Agriculture.

District Manager Carrie Rogaczewski says surveys went out to Sheridan County residents earlier this year and based on results, two things that stood out was one service that’s already provided and the other was getting the word out that the District exists.

“Water quality monitoring is still very important to people in terms of one of the things we, as a district, can provide and a service or a program that we implement. Water quality, both surface water quality and ground water quality were important to people. We also, through reading through the long answer comments, there’s obviously a need for us to do some additional outreach, in terms of what we have the authority to do, what we have the ability to do.”

Rogaczewski adds the new plan must be submitted to the USDA by the end of this year.
