In the next few weeks contract work will begin on the Story/Penrose Trail, North Piney Trail, and Stockwell Trail in the Bighorn National Forest. According to a media release from the Forest Service, closures are not expected but travel delays may occur. Crews recently set out stakes to mark the work areas. Notice will be shared closer to when the work will occur so that visitors can make alternative plans if necessary.

Project trail work will include tread reconditioning, stream crossing work, excavation, corridor work that will include brush trimming, and some removal of trees that are deemed hazardous. Blasting on Story/Penrose Trail has been completed. If you have any questions about the project, you can contact the Bighorn National Forest Supervisor and Tongue Ranger Office in Sheridan at 307-674-2600.
