On Friday, July 26, Ucross held an opening reception for their newest exhibit, “We Have All the Time in the World.” this is the third and final installation of a three-part gallery series celebrating Ucross’ 40th anniversary. There were refreshments and talk by guest curator Josh Kun.

The exhibit gets its name from a song by the same title recorded by Louis Armstrong. The song was a part of the soundtrack from the James Bond film, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.”

The exhibit blends music and two-dimensional art into a unique experience, where the music enhances the art, and the art blends with the music.

Laura Jean Schneider, Ucross communications manager talked about the exhibit.

She had this to say about some of the pieces on display.

Two photographs were by artist Rhona Bitner of New York City and Paris, France.

“Some of the noisiest pieces in ‘We Have All the Time in the World’ are the ones without sound,” Kun said about Bitner’s photographs.

One of her photographs on display was the living room in Washington state where the band, Nirvana played their first live show.

Guest curator Kun selected the 15 fellow Ucross alumni featured in the show, and he talked about his role in choosing the artists.

“Artists working across music and sound have long been instrumental to the Ucross residency program,” Kun said. “It has been a personal honor to shape an exhibition that draws from their extraordinary work. The artist lineup mixes established musicians, photographers and visual artists with emerging artists who are breaking new ground in the way sound and music are treated as artistic languages.”

He said he is described as a culture historian focusing on music. He studies what music is and how it works in our lives. He said he may research on a topic for a year or so, and then gives a concert on that topic.

He has been a fellow at Ucross several times, and talked about what they offer.

The exhibit will continue through January 10, 2025. The Ucross Art Gallery and Café, located at 30 Big Red Lane in Ucross, are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Admission is free, thanks in part to support from the Arete Design Group and the Wyoming Arts Council, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Wyoming Legislature.
