The US Forest Service is alerting visitors to the Bighorn National Forest that they may encounter log hauling trucks on forest roads in the Tongue Ranger District for the remainder of the summer and into the fall.
The BNF is asking the public to please share the roads safely with all other users. Hauling will be on the west end of Forest System Road 26 between Tie Flume Campground and Highway 14 and on Forest System Roads 223 and 16 south of Highway 14.
According to the BNF, timber harvesting operations are being implemented to reduce hazardous fuel loads, improve resilience to future insect and disease epidemics and increase the diversity of forested wildlife habitats. Timber removed from these projects will be processed into lumber, boards, posts and poles at mills in the Black Hills area.
