City leadership talk parade and the burden of chairs on downtown business

Sheridan City Council Member Greg Luhman and Police Chief Travis Koltiska made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to talk about the upcoming parade.
The SPD is once again bringing in a few extra officers from the Gillette Police Department to augment patrol staff.
The SPD Chief always asks attendees if they have a few drinks to ensure a safe ride home has been planned.
Luhman said City Hall will be closed during the parade and informed the public on the route.

Every year, the City asks members of the public to not put chairs out before the morning of the parade. This practice does not guarantee a spot. The courtesy of others is the only thing that keeps a chair on Main Street overnight. The City would like the public to know that the practice is burdensome to downtown patrons when chairs are lining the sidewalk, making it almost impassable.
The SPD Chief told listeners of Public Pulse that he now sees chairs on Main Street a full 24 hours before the parade and will initiate conversation with the city leadership on the topic in the near future.

At one time there was a threat to rem9ve the chairs and they could be pick up from the SPD after the parade. This seems like a decent solution. Put up signs stating no chairs before a certain time and confiscate any that are set up.

Selling permits for advance placement of chairs on Main street would be an excellent opportunity for a charity to capitalize on the popularity of the practice and raise funds for their organization.
At $5 per chair for a permit, a charity could raise alot of money. Chairs without permits could be deemed trash and confiscated.
