The WYO Film Festival was founded by Justin Stroup. His passion for film led him to seek films that are innovative, inspirational and capture the independent spirit of the storytellers.
During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Stroup said it’s not only his passion that led the festival to be so successful in Sheridan.

When the festival began, Stroup would view approximately 700 films each year in preparation for the festival. Vetting the films that he felt Sheridan Film Festival patrons would not only embrace, but find entertaining, inspiring and perhaps even life changing.
The size and scope of the festival has expanded over the last six years. Others have joined Stroup to ease his viewing burden. A committee of volunteers now views the numerous movies and shorts, recommending the ones they feel are best suited for the festival to Stroup.
This year, the WYO Film Festival will be taking part in WyoGives for the first time.

According to Stroup, the Filmmaker Travel Fund is used to pay for travel and housing of the filmmakers during the festival. Many filmmakers take part in questions and answer sessions during the event, make themselves available for conversations and many times return to Sheridan to vacation with their families.

Taking place on July 10, WyoGives is an initiative of the Wyoming Nonprofit Network. It is a statewide 24-hour online fundraising event designed to bring the state together as one community to raise funds and awareness for Wyoming’s nonprofits.
The WYO Film Festival has a matching donation of $2,500, meaning every dollar donated by someone in the community will double up to that amount.
