No Harm Done After Teen Negligently Fires Off Pistol In North Sheridan Neighborhood

On 3/28/2024 at approximately 0003 hours officers responded to a report of shots fired outside of 1744 N. Main St.

The reporting party stated a suspect shot a silver SUV and added one person was reportedly shot and was still in the SUV.

Officers located a witness near the scene.

The witness explained that his friend negligently shot his pistol across the street toward an apartment when he was showing it off.

The witness added the suspect allegedly pulled the trigger on a chamber he thought was empty and was not targeting anyone.

Nobody was shot during this incident and neither were any vehicles.

Officers found the 17 year old male suspect, who will not be identified due to his status as a minor, and cited him Reckless Endangerment and MIP- Alcohol.

The 17 year old was turned over to a guardian.

The 17 year old suspect obtained the firearm and ammunition because it was stored in an unsecure location.

Everyone is encouraged to store firearms in a secure and responsible manner.

There is no threat to our community.
