Council Interviews Candidates for Vacant Seat

At the February 12 study session of the Sheridan City Council, Councilman Shawn Day announced that he would be resigning from the Council due to a recent move outside of city limits. Day’s term runs through the end of this year. The City received eight applications from residents looking to fill the vacant seat. During a study session Monday night, the Council interviewed the eight applicants by asking each of them a series of five questions. Each of the five questions were the same for each applicant. Sheridan Mayor Rich Bridger said Monday night one of the applicants will be chosen to fill the vacancy.
The eight candidates who are vying for the Council seat are Harry Pollack, Jack Wood, David Dewey, Aaron Linden, Bev Leichtnam, Scott Van Dorsten, Jacob Martin, and Brigitta Hamilton.

Gosh, I just hope the council chooses the candidate that the Sheridan County Republican Freedom Caucasus wants to avoid another frivolous lawsuit in Sheridan Politics areana.

Here’s how you do it under Robert’s rules. The Chair abstains and let’s the others do a straight-up vote. Don’t use a motion/second procedure. That works best on binary (up or down) choices, not with multiple candidate choices. The person getting the most votes wins and is the new councilmember. Simple.
In most cases the vote will be 3-0, or 2-1. A clear winner usually stands out.
If there is a 1-1-1 tie for three different people, then the chair breaks the tie by voting for one of the three.
Again, simple. Had the commission done their jobs and/or researched using the proper voting procedures, none of this would have happened.
Of course the evidence and events strongly suggest that they INTENDED to Fail.
Let’s hope the city council intends to succeed.
