While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Executive Board Member and Clarence Montano and AARP Volunteer Wayne Schatz spoke on the Sheridan AARP Wyoming Souper Bowl.
Schatz devised The Souper Bowl over a decade ago when he noticed bare shelves at many of the food banks in Sheridan. Schatz had a friend who needed food, providing transportation for him, they visited many food banks in the city but found very little his friend could receive.

Schatz figured the next city-wide celebration would be the Super Bowl. So he, and a few other AARP volunteers placed two containers at a location, each container asking generous donors to place the donated food in the bin corresponding with the NFL team they believed would win the game.
The program was a hit and has grown over the years. Montano reports that last year’s Souper Bowl received more than a ton of food.
This year, Sheridan-area residents will once again be able to vote for their favorite team in a two-week non-perishable food drive for local food banks.
Montano said the food goes to two different organizations.
