The Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter has changed their policy regarding visitors walking through the kennel area.
In the past, residents visiting the shelter would make an appointment and at the designated time are guided through the back area containing the kennels of available dogs.
Due to the anxiety and stress this can place on caged dogs, the shelter has made policy changes to serve the community better and keep the animals calm.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, founder and operator of the Unleashed Foundation, Marian Eccles, and the newly appointed dog lead at the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter, Marcie Horsley, spoke on the policy change.
Horsley said after customers walked through the back area, it could take some dogs long periods of time to calm down.

According to Horsley, this new process not only keeps the other dogs calm, it provides a better environment for potential families to meet dogs available for adoption.

Horsley and Eccles believe the new process will also keep the dogs being shown more calm and raise the possibility of adoption.
