New unemployment numbers from the Wyoming State Department of Workforce Services suggest Wyoming’s economy is showing signs of steady improvement, as a result of a decrease in unemployment in every Wyoming county, compared to this time last year.
Although the rate from September to October of this year is unchanged at 2.5%, that percentage is down from 3.4% in October of last year.
The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for October 2023 was at 3.9%, which is up from 3.8% in the previous month, and up from 3.7% in October of 2022.
Both Sheridan and Johnson Counties’ unemployment rate increased slightly from September to October.
Sheridan County checked in at 2.3%, which is up from 2.2% in the previous month, and down from 3.2% in October of last year.
Johnson County was at 2.4%, and that’s up from 2.2% in September, but down from 3.1% in October 2022.
Weston County had the lowest unemployment rate in Wyoming in October of 2023 at 1.7%, while Sublette and Sweetwater Counties tied for the highest rate at 2.9%.
Nonfarm employment in the Cowboy State increased by 7,900 jobs from October 2022 to October 2023.
