Caitlyn Brown, student, spoke to the board, saying that she realized that cost was a factor in starting the program, and how they could offset some of the costs.

Dr. Derek Gilbert spoke to the board as well, saying he had talked to the board about the health benefits, but tonight he was citing some other benefits of the program.

Trustee Dana Wyatt addressed the audience, saying.

After hearing the comments and views expressed by the audience, Superintendent Scott Stults said he had looked over the figures and reduced start-up cost for the sport to around 77 thousand instead of 84 thousand as he had previously stated.

He talked about the number of girls that had expressed interest in the program, adding that only six girls participated in other spring sports, so softball would not be taking girls away from other sports. He gave this recommendation to the board,

After some discussion, the board voted unanimously to accept Stult’s recommendation. There was a spontaneous burst of applause from the audience after the vote.
