The National Association of Counties recognizes September as National Preparedness Month. This month offers us an opportunity to highlight the role of counties in preparing for and responding to disasters.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan County Emergency Management Coordinator Jesse Ludikhuize said having a family plan could make all the difference in an emergency situation.
According to Ludikhuize, preparedness is everyone’s responsibility and must be done early. He recommends residents be two weeks ready, meaning people and their family should have a plan and kit to be self-sufficient for up to two weeks should a major disaster strike.
Ludikhuize suggests checking in on seniors throughout the community, as some may no longer have other family living in the area. Those who have medical equipment at home may want to ensure that should power go out for an extended period of time, they have a back-up plan.
The Sheridan County Emergency Management webpage contains information and links that can be used by residents to help prepare for possible situations and more.
