Youth Open Mic Night was created to give Sheridan teens from the middle and high school a chance to share a song, prose, a poem, spoken word, rap or dance with a crowd of their peers in an open, safe and supportive environment.
SAGE Executive Director Jill Benson appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse and spoke on the importance of the audience that attended the inaugural event.
The event begins at 7 p.m. on Aug. 11. Youth Open Mic Night is for youth in junior high and high school. The young adults are invited to perform on stage for their peers. And that performance can involve almost anything, from singing to reading prose.
Refreshments will be provided by SAGE and Uprising as well as the music and dancing with live DJ, 2 Party Hounds, beginning at 8:30 p.m. after the open mic performances.
The event will be held at SAGE Community Arts and parents and families are encouraged to accompany their youth and be a part of the evening. Attendees are being asked to bring their own blanket and/or chair and find the perfect spot to relax, enjoy the performances, and cheer for their talented loved ones.
