cvannoyAt the July 17 SCSD#2 Board meeting, several of the donors who made the new athletic field artificial turf possible at Sheridan High School were recognized.
Don Julian, SHS Activities Director, said he was excited to recognize a wonderful group of supporters, the local donors who contributed to allow the school to replace the old turf at the Homer Scott Stadium.
He said that thanks to their generosity, the school was able to expand the project. They did a million-dollar remodel on the stadium, which included not only the new turf but also replacement of the antiquated lights as well.
Julian said there was $550 in the way of private money, and many of the donors attended the meeting.
He said that they wanted to recognize those who attended.
Scott Stults, Superintendent, in his report, said he wanted to reiterate on what was mentioned earlier.
Other recognitions included National FFA Qualifier Jhett West, who spoke briefly about a business he started selling high quality feed to those youngsters showing livestock.
The board also recognized the seasonal paint and grounds crew for their work, trustee Arin Waddell commented on the flowers at the school.
There was a school activities update by Kasey Garnhart, activities director. Garnhart said that over 70% of students participate in activities, and they maintain a GPA of well over 3.0. He said that they do a tremendous job with time management and the dedication to academic success.
One community member, Nancy Stevens, spoke to the board and voiced her concern about a policy EHAA, “staff acceptable use of technology,” which states that the staff may not search, view or accept any posts that contain material that is pornographic in nature.

In other business the board voted to accept the budget for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year and they approved the bus routes.
They board approved the bid for the new Air Handling system being installed at SJHS as well as bids for the renovations on the SJHS and SHS special education rooms, and a bid for the purchase of new chairs for SHS and SJHS.
The next meeting will be held on August 7 at 6 p.m. in the board room.
