The showers are normally for April, but last month (June 2023) was a wet month for the Sheridan area and it will stay in the record books for some time.

The National Weather Service Office in Billings, Montana says for the month of June, 5.29 inches of precipitation was recorded at the Sheridan County Airport.

According to the weather archives, that makes it the 3rd wettest June on record.

A whopping 9.54 inches was recorded in 1944 and 6.11 inches was recorded in 1967.

Joe Lester with the National Weather Service explains what happened last month.

“Basically a weather pattern set up with a lot of high pressure, and warm air up into Canada allowed for moisture and cooler conditions coming off of the Pacific and up the High Plains and so it was just a combination of things that set up for the whole month and produced a lot of precipitation up and down the High Plains.”

This year’s 4th of July is also in the record books.

The high temperature for that day was 65 degrees, which ties the record for the lowest-high temperature for the 4th.

There are two other times that record was set, and they took place in 1915 and in 1958.
