Now that it’s the only show in Sheridan County, one Wyoming town is trying to make it as much of a success this year compared to last.

When the word got out that the fireworks show at the Big Horn Equestrian Center was no more beginning last year, the town of Ranchester saw an increase of traffic and visitors for its event.

Now that construction is done on the railroad bridge, Mayor Peter Clark says there could be more visitors at this year’s event.

He adds overcrowding and traffic haven’t been much of an issue.

“The problem is we don’t really have an ideal location where we can handle the traffic and stuff, but it works out. People have been respectful of each other and dealing with traffic, I mean they should get in and out, because we have a number of roads coming in and out. The interstate and state highways, back roads if you want to take those too.”

Mayor Clark says that because of flooding at Connor Battlefield State Park, all of the events, except for the fireworks, will take place behind town hall.

The fireworks event itself will take place regardless of weather, at dusk at Tongue River Middle School, on the other side of town from the other festivities.
