Trial for Sheridan Woman Charged With Aggravated Assault and Battery Remains Scheduled for Rodeo Week

A pretrial conference for a Sheridan woman charged with aggravated assault and battery was held Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
A four-day jury trial remains on the docket for July 10 through the 13 in District Court in Sheridan for Mele Rigdon, who is charged with aggravated assault and battery. Rigdon was charged with the crime for assaulting an individual with an exercise weight on September 22, 2022. The victim suffered extensive injuries, including broken bones to their left leg and right arm. It was determined at a pretrial conference Thursday in District Court that a jury pool of 50 potential jurors will be brought into the courtroom for jury selection the morning of July 10.
Due to the fact that the trial will be occurring during Rodeo week, it was agreed to have two alternate jurors instead of one. The trial date has been changed a number of times due to scheduling conflicts for key witnesses for both the state and the defense. If convicted, Rigdon faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
