U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) cosponsored legislation to prohibit states, localities or any other organization from using federal funding to maintain gun registries. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

The Gun-owner Registration Information Protection (GRIP) Act will protect the Second Amendment rights of people in Wyoming by clarifying existing law that prohibits states or local entities from using federal funding to store or list sensitive, personal information related to the legal ownership or possession of firearms.  While current law prevents the federal government from storing information acquired during the firearms background check process, the GRIP Act would ensure the federal government does not support, either intentionally or otherwise, state or local efforts to collect and store personally identifiable information related to legal firearm purchases and ownership.

According to information from Senator Lummis’ office,  the bill also clarifies that states and local entities cannot use federal grant funds from programs such as the National Criminal Histories Improvement Program, NICS Amendment Records Improvement Program or the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program to create or maintain full or partial gun registries. It would not limit states’ recordkeeping for permitting, law enforcement-issued firearms or lost or stolen firearms. The National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, National Association for Gun Rights and Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association support the GRIP Act.

Sickening how so many wannabe politicians are in the sack with gun manufactures and the dysfunctional NRA. Little wonder why so many are addicted to the almighty AR.Wonder what they would do if it was their kid in the middle of these mass shootings? I bet they would actually do the right thing then.

sickening how so many liberals choose to blame and object for problems instead of addressing real issues like mental health. Liberals must make this political and dont give a damn about those being harmed. Talk about dysfunctional! I am sick of dem pols making campaign contribution money off the deaths of people. This has nothing to do with the NRA , gun makers or ARs. It is a mental health issue. When u minimize the value of human life through abortion killing becomes easy. Look at the professor how destroyed the pro life table at CUNY Hunter College saying pro life was violence then hours later put a machete to the neck of a reporter. Hypocrisy much? Pathetic and disgusting.

Hey Mike, how do you plan to address the mental health and gun issue if you don’t have access to the cross-file data of who owns guns and who’s mentally ill? And, of course, even more importantly, most of the people who commit gun violence have no history of mental illness, how typical of you to avoid taking responsibility for your actions as a gun owner by demonizing the handicapped. I have a solution- anyone who wants to buy a weapon that is purely designed to kill as many people as possible as efficiently as possible is by definition a sociopath (I’ll give up a minute to look it up in the DSM4)-So the answer is Catch 22, if you want one, you can’t have it. Q.E.D. Have a nice day.

        Hey Mike:
It is sickening how conservatives refuse to address the number one killer of children in the USA i.e. assailants armed with weapons of war blowing away kids in schools. It is sickening how conservatives are disproportionally funded by pro-gun groups and because of this money will not even address the nationwide pandemic of gun violence in this country. It is sickening how conservatives consistently say we need to address mental health in this country but do not fund mental health initiatives such as free or reduced healthcare, educational opportunities, or health care clinics.
