Mayor Proclaims May 11 Arbor Day in Buffalo

Mayor Shane Schrader has proclaimed Thursday, May 11 as Arbor Day in Buffalo, and announced that area tree groups would be planting a tree in Washington Park that day as part of the celebration.
According to Wikipedia, Arbor Day began in Nebraska in 1872, and by the 1920s, each state in the US had adopted an Arbor Day.
The national holiday is celebrated on the last Friday in April, but each state celebrates its own state holiday.
On the first Arbor Day on April 10, 1872, an estimated one million trees were planted.
Schrader urged all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day by planting a tree on their properties.
