Weather, Staff Creating Havoc on JCSD1 Transportation
The unusually snowy weather so far this spring has created some problems for activities in the Johnson County School District, as reported by Transportation Director Bill McKenzie.
At the school board meeting Monday night in Kaycee, he said staff shortages in the department haven’t led to any activity cancellations so far, but the weather has led to some cancellations.
He did caution the board that with the driver shortage, there may be some cancellations due to the high number of rescheduled activities.
In his written report, he said that since the last board meeting, there have been 111 requested vehicle trips, 31 canceled activity trips that have not been rescheduled, 13 changes in venues/destinations due to weather conditions, and just over 10,000 miles traveled for activities.
There have also been 11 windshields replaced on district vehicles due to sand, rocks, and debris on the roads.
Also, staff were recently able to ride along on the Kaycee routes, meeting with drivers, and assessing the needs of Kaycee transportation.
