Aaron PalmerApril has been proclaimed as “Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month” in Johnson County.
During their brief regular meeting this week, the county commission voted to approve the proclamation, which was discussed by Chairman Bill Novotny.
Novotny said that children are our future and should not suffer child abuse and neglect. Those that do are known to be at higher risk of experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, low academic achievement, drug use, teenage delinquency, teenage pregnancy.
He said every child deserves to grow up in a healthy, safe, and nurturing environment free from the harmful effects of abuse and neglect.
Novotny said every year there are a number of partner groups that bring attention to the issue.
According to the proclamation, nearly 1,000 kids in Wyoming are victims of abuse and neglect each year.
