Representative Western Discusses Property Tax Legislation

Published

on

State Representative Cyrus Western (R-House District 51, Sheridan County) spoke with Sheridan Media this week about happenings at the current legislative session in Cheyenne.

He spoke about the legislature’s passing of only two bills out of more than 20 that were designed to help lower skyrocketing property tax bills to Wyoming homeowners, saying the legislature did get something done, although maybe not as much as they wanted or should have.

Senate Joint Resolution 3 (SEJR No. 0003) was passed by the House and Senate and was sent to Governor Mark Gordon, who has said he will sign the legislation.

So he voted for the state tourism tax, that passed. He sponsored a bill to tax the interstate highway. Now he can’t get us any property tax relief. More failures.
He likes high taxes and big-gov’t, just like any other liberal.

If you look at the bills passed over the many years, it isn’t hard to see which factions always get their revenue turf protected. There is mostly just two, so it isn’t hard to figure out. They also have the most representatives and pay the least fair property taxes.

This tax rebate allows taxes to continue increasing by all taxing entities, and one person’s tax money given to cover someone else’s tax increase. This is not good tax legislation, but a mismanagement of dollars. This Representative was asked about this beforehand and voted against a study to consider tax relief for all. Decide for yourself which taxing model is best: purchase acquisition value for you, or ad valorem for the county and state.
