A Sheridan man who pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge at a hearing in December was sentenced in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan Tuesday. District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted the terms of the plea agreement reached with the State and sentenced 54-year-old Kenneth Hirschman to a deferred prosecution and two years of supervised probation. A deferred prosecution means that if Hirschman successfully completes the two years of probation with no violations, the charge will be dismissed and will not go on his record.

Hirschman was also ordered to pay $325 in various court costs and fees and $1,152 in restitution to the City of Sheridan. Hirschman addressed the Court at the hearing by saying that he “is very sorry for all of the trouble he’s caused and he is genuinely remorseful” for his actions.

Hirschman was Utility Maintenance Division Superintendent for the City of Sheridan when he took scrap metal from the Utilities Maintenance Division Shop and sold the brass to a recycling facility in Billings, Montana. Between July of 2020 and March 24, 2022, Hirschman drove his personal vehicle to Billings and sold scrap brass three separate times. The recycling center in Billings provided investigators with digital receipts of the transactions.
