Ron RichterA sentencing hearing was held Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for 63-year-old Gary Anderson. In May of 2022, Anderson was arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree for inflicting sexual intrusion on an 11-year-old victim between July 11 and July 23 of 2021. Anderson initially pleaded not guilty to the charge at an arraignment hearing in July of 2022 and later changed his plea to guilty pursuant to a plea agreement reached with the state that amended the charge from first to second degree sexual abuse of a minor.
Following witness testimony and two emotional victim impact statements from the victim and victim’s father, District Court Judge Darci Phillips sentenced Anderson to 12 to 18 years in prison and ordered him to pay $325 in various court costs and fees. Anderson will receive credit for the time he’s served in the Sheridan County Detention Center since his arrest last May.
