Formerly known as the One-Cent Optional Sales Tax, the General Purpose Excise Tax is the one-cent sales tax that is levied on sales in the city with the exception of food. The money raised from the GPET goes to pay for projects that may not otherwise be funded by the council. The money is also used to help fund the many 501(c)(3)s in Sheridan. In January, the City Council approved a total $389,000 that was allocated to 15 different organizations.
