Ron RichterRecord-level inflation over the last year has hurt many hard-working Wyoming families, forcing difficult financial decisions. When gasoline prices rose to their highest recorded levels this past June, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon established the Gas and Diesel Working Group, tasking them with finding solutions to help provide relief at the fuel pump for Wyoming families. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
According to information from the Governor’s Office, the Gas and Diesel Working Group included members of both the private and public sectors. In July, the working group hosted two public meetings where testimony was provided related to possible options that could be explored. Department of Revenue Director and Chairman of the Working Group Brenda Henson said the committee greatly appreciated individuals taking time to provide information during the public meetings. Henson said following the public meetings, the Working Group carefully explored proposed solutions and prepared a report for Governor Gordon outlining their recommendations.
Increasing the capacity of Wyoming refineries is a concept the Working Group identified as a goal. In addition, group members used an outside of the box approach with a shared goal of providing relief to Wyoming citizens with both short, and long-term solutions. Gordon said the report outlines actions Wyoming can take that can make a difference to state residents, in addition to just being able to produce more oil and gas. There are some specific recommendations that the public, and especially the Legislature, should look to for solutions to high gas and diesel prices in Wyoming.
