Ron RichterA 64-year-old Sheridan man changed his plea at a hearing in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan Thursday. Clay Jenkins pleaded “guilty” to the charge of Felony DUI. Jenkins has previously been convicted three times for the charge of DUI. In Wyoming, four DUI convictions within a 10-year period results in a felony. The guilty plea was not pursuant to terms of a plea agreement with the State.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Jenkins was pulled over on June 6 of last year when a trooper with the Wyoming Highway Patrol witnessed him driving erratically on Brundage Lane in Sheridan. He failed a partial field sobriety test before telling the trooper that he did not want to continue the test. A subsequent breath test indicated a BAC of .21 percent, and Jenkins was placed under arrest for DUI. An additional breath test performed later at the Sheridan County Detention Center yielded a BAC of .19 percent. District Court Judge William Edelman ordered that a presentence investigation be conducted and said that sentencing would be set at a later date. Felony DUI is punishable by up to 7 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
