The Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter is asking the public for their extra pocket change.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, shelter Executive Director AJ Evans told listeners that she has worked to distribute small dog house shaped receptacles at generous business locations throughout the City of Sheridan.
Evans informed listeners that the 50% off Independence Month sale did not go as well as she had hoped. Theories revolve around a possibly flooded market and the unavailability of pet friendly housing in Sheridan.
While the adoptions are slowing, the incoming turn-in and strays received at the shelter has remained consistent. Pens and beds at the shelter are full and staff work to create temporary pens and bedding for incoming animals. Currently the shelter is home to 112 cats, 36 dogs and nine smaller critters, such as guinea pigs and mice.
The shelter works closely with other no-kill shelters in the nation, often arranging the transfer of Sheridan animals to be adopted in other areas, but often it’s a give-and-take deal.
