Senator Kinskey on Direct Distribution Funds

State Senator Dave Kinskey (R-Sheridan), during his visit with the Buffalo City Council this week, discussed the upcoming Legislative Session that begins next week.
Kinskey said he will be looking at direct distribution funds, or funds given by the state to county and city governments.
The legislature earmarked $105 million for distribution last year, and the hope is that they will award at least that much again in 2020.
Kinskey said he will be pushing a new formula that is currently in the Joint Appropriations Committee bill that will give the state’s smaller communities more funding, and he explains how that will work.
Kinskey said the proposal, if it is passed, would cost Sheridan, Gillette, Casper, Cheyenne and other larger towns $100,000 to $200,000 but he said with the other millions they receive, he hopes lawmakers from those areas will support the formula change, and keep it in this year’s budget.
